Reddit Ad Creative: How to Make a Clear, Useful Image Ad

Plan Reddit image ads around a specific audience problem, useful product proof, readable design, and a landing page that supports the headline.

A useful Reddit image ad explains a relevant problem, shows something concrete, and gives the reader a clear next step. Start with the audience’s question, then choose a visual and headline that answer it honestly.

Trying to sound like a community member is less useful than understanding what the community actually needs. Keep the brand and offer clear.

Choose a specific problem

“A better way to work” is difficult to evaluate. “Compare two versions of a PDF without reading every page twice” describes a recognizable task.

List questions your product can answer, then choose one per ad. A focused problem gives the creative team something to demonstrate and the landing page something to explain.

Read relevant conversations to understand terminology and recurring concerns. Do not copy someone’s story or imply that a community endorses your product.

Show evidence the reader can inspect

Useful visuals might include a product in use, a simple comparison, or a clear view of the result. A software ad can show the relevant interface instead of a generic laptop on a desk.

If the screenshot contains tiny controls, crop to the useful area and remove unrelated clutter. The screen tutorial guide uses the same principle for moving demonstrations.

Keep comparisons fair. Explain the conditions behind a claim on the landing page, and avoid implying results you cannot support.

Write the headline and image together

Let each element contribute something:

ElementExample role
HeadlineNames the task: “Compare PDF revisions side by side”
ImageShows the two versions with the changed section highlighted
DestinationExplains the workflow and offers a relevant demonstration

Repeating a long headline inside the image uses space without adding information. Put only the words the visual needs to be understood.

Check the placement requirements

Reddit’s image ad specification guide documents supported ratios, files, and placement details, including separate thumbnail requirements for conversation placements.

Use the Reddit specification page as a preparation reference, then inspect the actual Ads Manager previews. Do not assume one image crop will look identical across every surface.

Check small labels, the product edge, and any text near the outside of the image. A technically accepted file can still be difficult to understand on a phone.

Match the destination to the promise

Send a specific product or workflow ad to a page that explains that product or workflow. If a price or free option is mentioned, make the conditions easy to find.

Use the message-match checklist to review the journey. Add consistent campaign tags when your measurement setup uses them.

Test different ideas, then refine

Compare meaningful angles such as saving time, reducing mistakes, and simplifying collaboration. Keep a record of the concept behind each asset.

Once an idea shows promise, test a different demonstration or headline within it. Judge the result against the campaign objective and the amount of delivery received. A click-generating image and a qualified-lead-generating image are not automatically the same thing.
